Our Products
BCSI's pH1000™ System is a closed-loop system comprised of a sterile platelet storage bag with an optical pH sensor that interprets the biochemical changes occurring in the platelet solution and the BCSI pH1000™ instrument. CE Mark approval was granted in 2007.
Our “In the Bag” proprietary products are expected to revolutionize the way platelet quality is monitored by changing the quality control systems used to release blood platelets. The BCSI storage bag is expected to enable blood banks, hospitals, and blood centers to monitor the pH of blood platelets non-invasively and non-destructively without sampling. The pH1000™ allows for multiple measurements and monitoring until just prior to transfusion while maintaining the sterility of the bag.
Optical pH sensor - the pH sensor is a small plastic part that is integrated into the storage bag, is non-toxic and does not affect platelet viability or sterility. The pH sensor contains a small paper membrane that has a fluorescent pH indicator dye attached. The fluorescent light emitted from the dye when exposed with an excitation light is measured by the pH1000™ instrument.

The BCSI pH1000™ instrument is a dual channel fluorometer which can provide monochromatic excitation light and measure two channels of emission light using a single fiberoptic. The instrument is microprocessor controlled and fully automated. The conversion of optical information to pH is performed using a self-correcting and self-calibrating ratio method that is patent pending. The monitor has provisions for tracking and reporting sample ID, user ID, and other parameters. The instrument can interface with printers, laboratory information systems, and personal computers for record keeping and reporting. The pH1000™ System is a medical device designed under FDA and ISO design control procedures. BSCI is currently introducing the pH1000™ system in Europe.
