BCSI Operating Team & Philosophy

BCSI's operating team consists of experienced executives, scientifically diverse biologists, chemists, systems engineers, microbiologists and life scientists. The team is goal oriented and customer focused.

The culture of BCSI is one of respect and collaboration and as managers and researchers our team is not only dedicated to the advancement of medical devices but also to the overall success of every employee.

Following, in alphabetical order, are the members of the BCSI operating team:

Russ Aldrich

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Aldrich has been an operating executive with many high-technology companies including Apple Computer, Unisys Corporation and Silicon Graphics. His skills include building and managing profitable product units with $150MM in annual revenues and hundreds of employees worldwide. He has managed all phases of engineering, marketing and sales, finance and customer support. As an entrepreneur, he has successfully raised capital, started and operated two companies Simba Technologies (acquired by Pivotal Research) and HaL Computer Systems (acquired by Fujitsu). As the executive director of a private equity firm, he was a Board Member or advisor to Adrelevance (acquired by Jupiter Media Metrix), Net Gravity (acquired by DoubleClick) and Virtual Relocation (acquired by TMP Worldwide). He has acquired technology from the University of Washington Tech Transfer Program and worked closely with University of California San Diego in their education to industry CONNECT program.
Lynn M. Barker, MT (ASCP)

Manager, Quality Control and Lab Operations

Ms. Barker is a proven leader in the clinical and research laboratory.  With over 25 years of diverse experience in healthcare, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries and more than 20 publications as author/co-author, Lynn is an asset to both R&D and strategic business planning.  Utilizing her extensive knowledge of clinical microbiological procedures and experience in clinical blood banking, she organizes and directs the daily activities of the microbiology laboratory including quality control procedures.  She executes specialized laboratory techniques with impeccable documentation and work standards. She is an enthusiastic team member dedicated to day-to-day productivity and thriving on organization, staff training and long-term planning.
Steven Geelhood

pH SAFE System Product Manager

Mr. Geelhood has a Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington where he worked with biomaterials and the interactions of proteins and cells on surfaces.  He has over 5 years of experience in the medical device industry, leading the engineering development of the pH SAFE Reader (formerly pH1000).  He brings a balanced background of chemistry know how, process improvement and project management to the team.
Daniel Gestwick

SNAP System Product Manager

Mr. Gestwick is a mechanical engineer with a Masters of Engineering Management from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College. His professional experience has spanned multiple industries with companies such as GE, Z Corporation and K2. He brings a background in both product design and manufacturing management to help BCSI bring our SNAP System to market.
Evert Jan Klip

General Manager Europe

Mr. Klip has overall responsibility for European operations. He was educated as a bio-mechanical engineer and has over 28 years of international experience in developing, registering, manufacturing and commercializing medical devices and pharmaceuticals. His management positions have included Pfizer, Baxter International, AKZO Pharma, and NPBI International. At NPBI he had overall responsibility as VP-R&D for research and development of a broad range of products for the blood transfusion market. He has been a member of the ISBT and industrial member of the BEST group. Evert Jan is a recognized contributor to the international blood banking community. He has served as a consultant to industry, universities and government agencies.
Donna Matuizek

Director Quality Assurance

Donna’s experience includes quality control, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, manufacturing, contract manufacturing, and project management. Donna held key roles in Quality Control and Manufacturing at Genetic Systems and made significant contributions to bring the first HIV In Vitro Diagnostic Device to market. As the Manager of Chemistry and Microbiology Quality Control at Immunex Donna provided vital leadership and operational strategies for the successful launch of Leukine®, a growth factor that helps to increase the number and function of white blood cells. At Dendreon, as Director of Quality Control and Senior Manager of Contract Manufacturing, Donna was instrumental in assuring clinical manufacturing supply, the completion of pivotal clinical trials, and the submission of the electronic Biological License Application for the ultimate approval of PROVENGE®, the nation’s first licensed cellular therapy. In 2009 Donna joined the Scientific Advisory Committee for Immusoft Corporation, a private venture advancing new technologies in cell therapy.
Michael Reed, Ph.D.

Director of Research and Development

Dr. Reed is responsible for R&D at the company. He is a Ph.D. chemist with 17 years of experience in the development of biotech products. His expertise is in linking biological active molecules (antibodies, DNA probes, therapeutics) to other signal molecules or surfaces. He led development of many different types of these "bioconjugates" for use in medical devices and in diagnostic products. He has a strong background in R&D management, technology presentation (over 50 published papers), and intellectual property (twelve issued U.S. patents).
